Marcia Bianchi / Fragments III

Marcia Bianchi has completed a studio residency with Akin Collective at Auto BLDG in the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto. She has participated in multiple exhibitions, most notably, a digital billboard in Times Square, New York City, and prints of her work are sold in the gift shop at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Inspired by the ancient sculptures observed while visiting the Neues Museum, Das Tempo is a series of paintings created directly after Marcia's residency at the
Berlin Art Institute (May 2024). During that period, she began contemplating time and how it manifests itself physically. With this topic percolating, she chose to
experiment leaving part of the canvas untouched, so to emphasize the pace at which the oil paint ages, adjacent to the raw material — a diverse selection of cotton,
linen, and wood.

Using color fragments from Marcia's Das Tempo series, this oil on wood panel piece offers an abstract interpretation of her quintessential realist works. Our Curator recommends collecting alongside a a realist piece from the Das Tempo series to truly capture this time period in the artist's practice.
